Thanks man. I got the stream working with just the Startech device just now, and was playing marvel with a friend, thought I was playing via the flash encoder monitor on 200% zoom :) Didn't get sound to work but I'll play around with that later. Thanks for the setup notes. I'll get the down converter next.

If you're just trying to stream old games like MArvel and CVS2 then you dont need the down converter btw.

It will be new games as well - SF4, MAYBE Tekken 6. I'm just getting into MVC2 now is all.

Just picked up the Shinybow 4 AV Distribution Amplifier (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=35620).

I read on SRK you're having issues with the sound? Are you using Adobe FME?

I play my PS3 on a PC monitor through HDMI. Is there anyway to record?

Not sure if you can record via HDMI because of HDCP.. I think you have to use component cables then run it to a VGA converter and run that to your monitor if it doesnt have component in.

EDIT

"From there you will take the the master out and connect it to an audio splitter, one which will go to the Hauppauge. This will allow you to record commentary that goes along with the gameplay. You can potentially set this up to record commentary on a second track via Garage Band or some other audio recording program but that is entirely up to you."

Sweet, time to get this stuff. You are awesome for this guide, man. My rig will be entirely windows-based so when it is all ready I will write a windows-based counterpart on here.

What kind of microphones do you use? Are you using two handheld mics or one table standing mic, or??

For podcasts I just use a regular ole Rockband USB mic.. for streaming I have a XLR Shure Mic that I plug into my mixer.

OK, from my own setup on windows I have found this

Image

To be useless. The problem is audio. It comes with software that allows you to RECORD with audio, however do anything outside of that software and you do not get sound. So I can stream with it... but with no sound. Even when you open up Flash Media Encoder, it brings up an audio bitrate error message straight away. I would not recommend this for windows users.

I have just purchased this - Pinnacle Dazzle DVD Recorder

It has component and S-video input and connects to your machine via USB. Installed it on my computer here at work and flash live media encoder picks it up no problem with no errors. I will put up a test stream when I get home.
